Housing and Meals for KBS Visiting Researchers, Faculty, Students, REUs, URAs, & Interns
We welcome you to our lovely property to learn, enjoy, research, and reside. KBS offers an unforgettable learning experience with many recreational activities and opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of Gull Lake. While you are in residence, you may enjoy canoeing, swimming, hiking, soccer, volleyball, bonfires, and BBQs. Our resident mentor is on-site to assist you and plan social activities such as picnics, day trips, camping trips, bonfires, and many more fun activities. Delicious meals prepared by our chef and staff feature locally grown produce and a variety of vegetarian options. Food service accommodates special dietary requirements. To make a reservation, complete the form and return by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, (269) 671-2165 (fax), or call the Conference Center at (269) 671-2400. All individuals lodging must complete the form.
All apartments are equipped with a kitchenette, full-sized refrigerators, stoves or microwaves, desk with chair, fan, TV with Dish Network, wireless Internet, and private bathrooms.
One-room (efficiency) apartments have two twin beds, an 11’5” x 14’ living area, kitchenette, and private bathroom with shower. These apartments sleep 1-2 people.
Two-room apartments offer two twin beds and a sleeper couch, a 17’4” x 9’10” living room, 10’ x 10’ bedroom, kitchenette, and private bathroom with tub. These apartments sleep 1-3 people.
Orchard Dorm Suites
Each Orchard Dorm has two twin beds, small refrigerator, fan, desk with chair, computer network connection, wireless internet, and cable TV. Bathrooms are shared between two rooms with separate vanity areas that include a sink and counter space. (4 twin beds/1 bathroom per suite) There is an activity room with lounge area, TV/DVD/VCR with cable, pool table, guest computer, and full-size refrigerator with a sink area.
The cottage features four bedrooms, living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, and air-conditioning and is fully furnished. It sleeps 1-9 people in this 1,690 sq. ft. living space. The KBS discount rate for lodging is only for KBS invited guests, visiting researchers and instructors.
The cabins feature bunk beds, lounge area, full-size refrigerator and bathroom with showers.
Lodging rooms include all linen, bedding and towels, along with weekly housekeeping service. A coin-operated laundry sites are located in the Dorms and Apartments. Quarters are available at the front desk. Sorry, no pets allowed. Overnight guests must register at the Conference Center Front Desk located in McCrary Hall. Meals for guests may be purchased at McCrary Dining Hall at reduced rates.

Delicious meals prepared by our chef and staff featuring locally grown produce and a variety of vegetarian options are available to you during your stay.
Sixteen (16) meals are included with room and board per week:
- Breakfast: Monday to Friday (served 7:45 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.) (5 meals)
- Lunch: Monday to Saturday (served 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.) (6 meals)
- Dinner: Monday to Thursday (served 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.) (4 meals)
- Sunday Brunch: (served 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) (1 meal)

Dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan, food allergies, religious requirements, etc,. are available at all meals. Advance notice is required.
Most summer students reside with us on an inclusive Room and Board plan.
Information for Visiting Researchers
Researchers who wish to use KBS lands or laboratories as a research site, or to collect/remove plants or animals from KBS/MSU, must fill out a Research Site Use Request Form (SURF) at least three months prior to their visit. KBS is a tobacco free campus.
